The Real Global Crisis

It does us great harm to ignore the lessons history can teach. We are not the first to come this way, however, most people's historical perspective begins from the moment of their birth. This failure to garner wisdom from our ancestors has us to believe that Socialism/Communism/Marxism are new and exciting ideas, nothing could be further from the truth. I was reminded years ago why my parents insisted on a good education, and why my dad always was demanding that I think, I just hope that one day we will all do as my dad requested. Taxes and Tax Cuts in Terms of Beer

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the
bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill
the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite
happy with the arrangement until one day the owner threw
them a curved ball (or is that a curved beer!).
'Because you are all such good customers,' he
said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily
beer by $20.'

Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay
our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They
would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20
windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair
share?'

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if
they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the
fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to
drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to
reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and
he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay. And
so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100%
savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first
four continued to drink for free. But once outside the
restaurant the men began to compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20,' declared
the sixth man.. He pointed to the tenth man, 'but he
got $10!'

'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth
man. 'I only saved a dollar too. It's unfair that
he got ten times more than me!'

'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man.
'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The
wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in
unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The
system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth man and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks,
so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when
it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something
important. They didn't have enough money between
all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college
professors, is how our Tax System works. The people who pay
the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax
reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy
and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might
start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat
friendlier.

Well, life that we didn't know about anyway. Several thoughts popped into my mind while I was reading... Why is it that humans are always referred to as disturbing the delicate animal life by the same folks who claim that we are just very distant cousins of the same? Can't we all get along? Just curious..also, do you think that it is possible for some of these folks to start looking at other animals to determine if they too are guilty of overpopulation? I doubt it. Lastly, hypothetically of course, if it were possible for humans to have been around when the dinosaurs were here (no Palin jokes please) would we be at fault for that too?Sorry one last thing...you do realize that the only reason that a government is ever interested in anything is if it will lead them to more power.

Most companies in US avoid federal income taxes

I just think it is a scam that people fall for this class-envy/shell-game stuff that politicians put in their heads. The fact of the matter is that ALL companies will always pass along the costs of doing business to their consumer. No matter if the expense is the cost of materials, or taxes, the consumer always absorbs the expense.

The other thing that occurs here is that a politician may claim that they are sticking it to the Big Bad Corporation out of one side of their mouth, but then they will give the company some loophole in the tax code while you are not looking, all the while convincing the unread voter that they are being protected by the great and powerful politician, and then they get large campaign contributions from the very same company.

There are a myriad of other scams that the politicians pull on us, but the single solution is to adhere to the limits in The Constitution and shrink The Goverment down to a size that doesn't allow for so much power in so few hands.

Yet another example of Government’s well-intentioned control of our lives turning into a dismal failure; the private citizen is a much better guarantor of his well being than some busy-body bureaucrat 100’s of miles away. Not to mention that in our form of government, and according to the law of the land, this is an absolute violation of the law.What will unfortunately happen here is that the elite mind’s of congress (by the way what exactly qualifies them as experts in finance? Oh yes, they won a popularity contest) will determine that a government entities’ failure is the fault of the free market and that their needs to be more control and oversight by them. I should be so lucky as to gain employment that enshrines in me the wisdom to determine that my failures were actually the fault of my competition. We should throw all of our mortgages in the Boston Bay!!!

My passion for party was subdued when I read this...

What do you feel are the proper foreign relatonships. Should we open up all of our trade in a free and Laize fair mentality; or should we place restriction upon our international commerce so that we can learn to produce our goods on a more local basis. This article describes a case which will no doubt raise the price of paint. Now, you may not be in the market for paint right now, but you are about to buy gas, food, toys etc. All of which have been, or might be the victim of some frivolous lawsuit, or government regulation, that never should have been brought in the first place.

Are there legitimate reasons to sue and regulate companies that do bad stuff? YES!!!! But not all of them. We need to get a handle on the legitimate use of the courts and the legislators.

Income Redistribution: Rangel’s Reward

Democrats sure know how to say thank you. Or perhaps it’s just coincidence that a bill passed by the House last week contains a special tax perk for trial lawyers—one of the largest contributors to Democrat campaigns. Buried in the Energy and Tax Extenders Act of 2008 is a provision, offered by House Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-NY), which would let trial layers deduct the up-front expenses they incur while chasing ambulances—er, filing contingency-fee lawsuits—whether or not they anticipate future reimbursements for these expenses. Under current law, these expenses, deemed “loans” to clients, are deductible only if not repaid. Rangel’s Reward would allow lawyers to claim deductions now and, in essence, defer tax payments until they receive reimbursements—which, as we know from watching infamous class-action lawsuits unfold, can take years.

A Rangel spokesman claims, “This is purely a matter of fairness and tax equity. The individuals who would benefit from this provision are already eligible to deduct expenses related to contingency-fee lawsuits, the only question is when.” In reality, though, the bill gives trial lawyers a green light, no speed limit, and free gas to launch a convoy of ambulance chasers.
Of course, as a rule, tax cuts are a good thing, but when they come in the form of special-interest loopholes that reward often-frivolous, economy-wrecking lawsuits, we hardly see the “fairness and equity” in that.
