Paul Krugeman’s assertions about market forces and supply-side economics ignore reality and a true journalists eye. He assumes that simply because the Federal Government does not totally control an industry that it is free from Government’s meddling; also that the absence of governments necessitate a free market. Neither is true. Collusion by either government or industry does not a free market make. Free markets exist where the consumer and the producer are free to engage in business transactions without outside influence. When the doctor and the patient are free to make decisions on care and prices that market will once again be free.
"The government of the United States is a definite government, confined to specified objects. It is not like the state governments, whose powers are more general. Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government."
